Hohenschwangau Castle in the Fall

It’s a rainy autumn Friday night as I write this and I’m relaxing with music, a little wine and by working on some photos. This evening’s contribution: a continuation of the fall German palace theme, but this time with the Hohenschwangau Schloss. Hohenschwangau Castle is the sister castle of the famous Neuschwanstein Castle and was the childhood home of the Bavarian King Ludwig II.

Neuschwanstein Castle gets all of the publicity, being the inspiration for Disney theme park castles and indeed, I’d come to the Bavarian village of Hohenschwangau to visit the famed castle. It was as specatcular as you’ve seen and I’d happily include a classic wide shot of the castle here but alas, it was under a good deal of construction and scaffolding when I’d visited. Still, I got my share of closeups and medium shots that I may post but as I’d hurriedly walked to the back of the castle for the classic angle (sadly I was on a tour and pressed for time), I passed this shot of Hohenschwangau Castle nestled picture perfect in fall leaves along side the blue waters of Swan Lake.

This image was shot hand held and I opted for a ‘Tilt-Shift’ treatment to give it a miniature model feel – hopefully adding to the dreamy quality of the landscape.
